Vibe of the Week 18 – Friends

What is the best sitcom ?

Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Courtney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc will be forever known as Rachel Green, Phoebe Buffay (or Regina Phalange for close friends), Ross Geller, Monica Geller, Chandler Muriel Bing, and Joey Tribianni. “Friends” run for glorious 10 seasons.

The series were broadcast in the late 90s and the early 2000s. I was in high school at that time. And, I used to watch it in French. Needless to say it has a big influence on me. I love the humour, the story, and of course the friendship. Then, I re-discovered it again in English in my 30s. The catch-phrase “How you doin?”, “Pivot! Pivot! Pivot!”, became part of my vocabulary. Also, I had my own litttle group of close friends. We used to meet very often. When I moved to live in another country. They are the ones that I missed the most.

Vibe of the Week 17 – Enemy

Have you ever play the game “League of Legends” ? … me neither.

This masterpiece definitely a must-watch. The animated series: “Arcane” (2021) on Netflix, tell the story of two sisters Vi and Jinx, and two worlds : the utopian Piltover and the oppressed underground of Zaun.

I’ve never played “The League of Legends” (multiplayer online battle arena video game). I doubt there is a story while you play the game. Nonetheless, the filmakers could get this storyline out of the characters in the game. The series appeal both to casual viewers who have never played the game (like me) and to long-time fans. That is huge deal knowing that the gaming community are the hardest to satisfy. And, the serie is that great that it has been greenlighted for a second season, coming on Summer 2024.

I am obsessed with the series. The storyline is more and less basic, but every character is a work of outstanding artistry, which elevate everything. I can’t emphasize enough the fact that gaming is the new way to tell stories. And, if they decide to make a RPG (Role Playing Game), I would definitely play the heck out of it!

Vibe of the Week 16 – Belonging

Where is the place you call home ?

“The Fosters” (2013-2018) is serie that follows the lives of Stef Foster (Teri Polo) and her wife, Lena Adams (Sherri Saum). They raise their adopted, biological, and foster children. It is not easy to give some teenager a home …

So, I stumble upon an Instagram reel of an interview of a lady … no idea who she was, but what she was saying speaks to me : the opposite of “to fit in” is “to belong” – my brain : what do you mean? it has the same meaning – then she goes – when you try to fit in, you assess and make correction of your behavior in order to comply to what you’d like to be part of. When you belong, you present yourself and you are accepted as you are”. … Deep I know!! That lady in fact is Brene Brown, an American professor who is known for her work on human connection. She has a widely viewed TEDx talk that focus on one of her study : “Vulnerability”, deep thoughts as well. And, if you feel adventurous, Brené Brown also have a show on Netflix : “The call to Courage”.

Vibe of the Week 15 – Sweet 40!

Hello Sweet 40 !!!

Yes, today is my birthday and Yes, today I turn 40! … I know, big scary number, … weirdly enough, I feel good! Life didn’t turn out as I expected it to be, but it is not that bad. If I list all the blessings in my life, this post would be too long. So, in order to celebrate today, I got the perfect song … Correction! P!nk has the perfect song!! “Today’s the day” … Did I mention I went to P!nk Concert ?

After a long pause, Vibe of the Week is back, every Monday! (^{_{until I do long pause again}}). And, we re-start on a right track with nonetheless than the theme song of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” (2003 – 2022). … I know, it is not a movie, it is a talk show, (^{_{It’s my blog, I do as I please!}}) … And it is P!nk! (I went to P!nk concert!!!) Did you know Ellen DeGeneres, the host, started her show at age 45? (^{_{I have 5 years to start something!}}). During its run, the show got 171 Daytime Emmy Award nominations and won 61 Daytime Emmy Awards. My favorite part in the show are her monologues at the beginning. My favorite guest is definitely Cate Blanchett. My favorite scare is probably … hesitation between Taylor Swift and Sarah Paulson ...

I never dare to make a bucket list. I felt like the number 1 on that list would be unachievable, and I would just spend the rest of my life resenting for not achieving it. And this year, I went to P!nk concert, I mentioned it right ? … It was everything, because it was P!nk of course! but also, because it was also my number 1 on that unwritten bucket list. It was like a reminder that life can get better, it is getting better. “These days are kinda scary I don’t want the fun to end”

Vibe of the Week 14

Another song that I found in an animated movie

You can imagine them flying above the ocean with with this song. Yep, it is all about “How to train your dragon” 2010. I have to mention that the whole soundtrack score by John Powell in this movie is terrific. The other installments did good too, but this first one is, in my opinion, the best!

“Sticks and Stone” by Jonsi is so upbeat, it gives you the punch for the whole week. And that is the Vibe of the Week!! Enjoy flying!

Vibe of the week 13 – Shrek Series Edition

We end up the Shrek Series Edition with the best song (in my opinion) in “Shrek Forever After” (2010). It is still Pride Month to sing this out loud for “Love is Love”. Darling, I do!

Fun fact : I haven’t noticed this song until I watched the movie for the sixth or seventh time. I guess I didn’t pay much attention the first times? … more focused on the storyline and the jokes. In my defense, it plays just for few seconds, highlighting the Shrek and Fiona “falling in love again” … just perfect! And now, I love it, my favorite song, favorite love song, favorite duet, my favorite everything! And, I would definitely play it on my wedding!

The movie.

The gang is back for a last ride (or not?). Mike Meyer, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz are exploring the “what if” storyline … Princess Fiona is a badass warrior, and Puss in boots is so fluffy, Donkey … is still the same! Always a delight to watch with their jokes and references of the previous series. The soundtrack is, of course, superb!

Vibe of the week 12 – Shrek Series Edition

We all have bad days, and most of our Mondays are bad days. So, let’s add a happy beat to make it a bearable bad day. “Royal Pain” by Eels

Shrek The Third (2007) – Get yourself a king! I do like the storyline in this movie. It is about finding yourself, change your fate and accepting your role … a very soul searching adventure.

The cast : Mike Meyer, Eddie murphy and Cameron Diaz came back under a new direction of co-directors Chris Miller and Remain Hui. We see the evolution of characters, their new storyline. But, we still have the comedy, jokes and reference along the way.

The soundtrack is perfectly supporting every scene : from super depressing “9 crimes” by Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan to super happy “Losing streak” by Eels, hyping the action scenes up : “Barracuda” by Fergie or “Immigration song” by Led Zeppelin, and a wink to “Live and let die” by Paul McCartney & The Wings for the drama effect.

Vibe of the Week 11 – Shrek Series Edition

Let’s continue with my favorite songs in Shrek Series movies – “Shrek 2” 2004 – . This is a no brainer!

“Shrek 2” 2004 starts with a happy song : Shrek and Fiona are on honey moon! The love montage is adorable. The found true love in each other . Also, this is my to-go song karaoke … after Bohemian Rhapsody !

The same crew (Writer and Director : Andrew Adamson) and cast (Mike Meyers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz) came back with some additional big names : Antonio Banderas, John Cleese, and Julie Andrews . It looks like they made this movie to be able to put every jokes and references they couldn’t fit in the first movie. Hence, the vibe of this second installment is more relax, it has more jokes and many culture references.

The soundtrack is pretty neat as well. Check those titles : “You’re so true” by Joseph Arthur, “I need some sleep” by Eels or “Changes” by Butterfly Boucher and David Bowie.

This is a great song for the Pride Month, Love is love!! That is why it is our Vibe of the Week!

Vibe of the Week 10 – Shrek Series Edition

Welcome Month of JUNE!!!

And to celebrate this month, I have decided to make a Shrek Series Edition … just because! Have you noticed the songs in those movies though? It deserves to be mentioned.

And, we start of with the beginning “Hey Now, you’re a Rockstar” – “All star” by Smash Mouth

First of! Can you name all the celebrities cameo in this music video ?

Second, when I hear the song, I only have Shrek morning routine in mind! How about you? This was really awesome way to introduce Shrek and a great way to start the day, the week!

From DreamWorks production, the tagline of “Shrek” 2001 is literally : “The greatest fairy tale never told“. You have the hero, the sidekick, the lady in distress and the dragon, add all of that and you get a fairy tale! The voice artists are : Mike Meyers as Shrek, Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona, and Eddy Murphy as Donkey. A nice trio that works pretty well! The movie is directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson … hum, no idea who they are … still, they manage to get the Oscar for the Best Animated features in 2002!

Vibe of the Week 9

To end this month of May, let’s get some looove in the air!

I recently watched “Four weddings and a funeral” (1994) on TV, and oh boy! Hugh Grant was so young!! I have seen with him last in “The Undoing” (2020), a TV series with Nicole Kidman ( I recommend) … The whole cast all have aged. Well, to be fair, there is 26 years between those two movie/series. The British Romcom still get it! it is still enjoyable to watch after 28 years. And, may I say Kristin Scott Thomas is fabulous!

I can’t talk about this movie without mentioning the spin off they did for “Red Nose Day” in 2019. There was another wedding, and all the characters came back … and some (kids) join the gang!

To be honest, I don’t know where we can find it now! It was available on Youtube when it came out. Now, we only have pictures to enjoy online … one picture in particular just makes my heart smile!
